Houseman's fate

Salam and hi,

I just received the feedback for my elective report. I choose to upload the comment given by the marker (it's a surgeon btw, has a Mr. in front of his name) because I felt surprised with his view regarding the change of system for housemen's. In my report, I did say a bit about how housemen were overworked and bla bla in Malaysia. Sorry, it may look inappropriate but I felt like I need to write about it. Guess what he think? 

He admitted that although he had to work ridiculous amount of hours as a junior doctor back then, he didn't think that the next generation of junior doctors have to go through like he did. He actually felt thankful that things have changed within the UK. Yes. It's getting better now, with constant feedback from junior doctors to the ministry to make the profession less sufferable. It has been proven that when the junior doctors are less overworked, it would be good for them, patients and everyone around them. 

Look at Ireland, the junior doctors had massive strike to defend their rights to have a better working hours. They were very united I would say. And the world has to listen to them, even if the government is being oblivious. ha

In comparison to what happen in Malaysia, well, Malaysians are just plainly defensive (in my opinion). The people in the Ministry and the seniors just love to see the junior doctors gone through what they'd gone through. They think that the kind of trainings they had couple of decades ago was what best for all. Nothing have to change or need to change. They had made the sacrifice so we now have to made our sacrifice as well. Although deep inside, they'd be glad if things were different ( I assume). The reason why they don't want to change the system is thats they think that lesser amount of  working hours correlates to lesser medical knowledge and competency among the junior doctors.

Hence, there were rumours that they want to increase the number of hours from 60 to 90 hours per week. So that these people will be smarter by working like a zombie. ha. In average, one has to work 15 hours for 6 days a week. The average working week for all Malaysians is 40 hours per week and the labour laws allow up to 48 hours per week. So a houseman works up to three times more than a normal Malaysia.  What a wonderful life. Is that really the way to tackle this issue? I don't think so. 

I guiltily admit that I do feel regret choosing this career although I love medicine. I don't think I am able to juggle my family and career if I work in Malaysia. I know thousands of people succeeded the two years of houseman but there's no achievement without sacrifice. The thing is I don't want to sacrifice my life and my family. Probs it would be better to just stay here, in UK. But I want to go bacckkkk. 3 more months to decide

Stress management: DIY studs

Hi,

Buat medic undeniably sangat stressful most of the time. Bukan at times ye, most of the times. Mostly this is due to study load yang banyak, workload- Leeds suke sangat suruh students buat essay especially Literature Review (now every month kene hantar satu bluuerrghh), penat ulang alik placement yang jauh especially bile 5th year ni NHS takde bajet sangat nak kasi accommodation and stress dengan group mates yang pandai-pandai belaka.

So, now I try my best to be positive, tenangkan fikiran, lapangkan dada dengan buat hobi kegemaran during weekend. Just to keep me sane. Usually, I love baking. But living with just us, two people, its kinda expensive sometimes to buy the ingredients. Lagi murah beli kek siap. LOL. Morrisons choc cake only 3 pounds yang sedap. Beli cooking chocolate utk cake pun 3 pounds gak, belum beli tepung gula whatever lagi utk siapkan sebijik cake haha So yeah. I only bake for special occasion only now. Just for the personal touch ;)

My latest hobby is DIY-ing. Because I am kedekut, I selalunye cari project project DIY yang murah-murah je. haha. My latest DIY is putting studs on my old-boring-looking cardigan. For my first trial, I letak studs ni kat bahu je. Google ajar.

I just learned that studs ni murah je rupanya. The cost for a new studded cardigan can easily be more than 20 pounds. Kat ebay I bought 100 studs for just 2 pound lebih. Buy three for the price of two. Berbaloi jugak lah letak studs ni because its a mindless job and can be addictive too!! In the end, I got a more edgy looking cardigan. hewhew. So, its not just a hobby it can saves you money too.

Now I am buying more studs yang rupe lain skit for my other clothes. Hehe. So, if you are stressed and feels like doing something meaningful (at least for me), have a try. Who knows :)

5th Year Medical Student

Salam and hi,

I have not been writing in my blog for aaagees now. I mean yes, literally about 2 years. Right after I got married to be exact. It felt somehow good to be back. 

Last year was not so good academically. I struggled a bit to get through the year. But Alhamdulillah, I managed to pass. All praise to Allah. In Leeds, we have something called sequential test. Its an additional test for those who did not do so well in the first attempt of examination, not necessarily meant that they have failed though. I thought I got bare pass for my first exam. Thats why I have to sit for the sequential. I have to do the OSCE one (thank god!) cause doing the written examination for the second time would be worser for me. 

We have all kind of specialties rotations in 4th year. They were obs&gynae&sexual health, paediatrics, acute and critical care, cancer and continuing care, and psychiatry. Of all these 5 rotations, I did not like any one of them. Poor me. I literally thinking about quiting medicine all year long. That bad.

Now, in 5th year. I think things has improved. I learned to like my rotation now. I have cardiology and gastroenterology these 2 months in Pinderfields hospital. I need to mention that this hospital is absolutely superb! They have free breakfast everyday. free shuttle from leeds to the hospital, free lunch occasionally, free drinks everyday (my favourite is ribena!), and they have a proper prayer room inside the hospital (a real necessity for me). The people in here also are a bit nicer than the previous hospitals that I have been to. I don't want to mention any names. hewhew

However, the negative thing about the rotation is the SSC. We need to produce 3000 words SSC in 2 weeks time, have to find our own time without compromising the placement. Its a madness. I am so plagiarising everything to write my ssc. And I just hope I'll pass all of them.

Salam

Hari jadi ku tahun ni jatuh tepat pada hari spot test ku! Spot test tu exam anatomy la. Wajib untuk lulus. If not merana la nak resit balik. Punyelah susah. Soalan pertama ku dalam spot test ialah soalan histology pasal epididymis. Soalan pertama, epithelium ape. Ok kacang lagi. Soalan kedua, ade satu structure ni namakan. Alamak dah susah sikit. Tak ingat dah jawab ape. Yang ketiga, What changes between proximal to the distal of epididymis. Damn it! Pernah belajar ke? Memang la hentam jawabnya. Disebabkan itu, soalan-soalan seterusnya di dalam spot test diharungi dengan pasrah dan tawakal. 

After spot test, barulah celebrate skit hari tua ku. Eh x tua pun eh, hari matangku. Walaupun takdelah matang mane, tapi layan je lah. Kali ni, nak makan best skit. So, ijat pun mencadangkan makan di Red Hot World Buffet kat Leeds town. Restaurant die btol2 kat corner jalan in front of PC World Leeds. Ceh, setiap hari lalu tapi tak pernah perasan restoran ni. Yang bestnya, restoran buffet ni halal, tapi die note yang die serve pork jugak. Tu jangan ambik lah. 

Ni ade skit je pics sambut besday. Alhamdulillah. Makanan kat situ memang sedap dan banyaaakkk sangat pilihan. Tak sempat nak amek gambar sgt sbb sibuk makan. Service pun memang sangat bagus. hehe. Rekemen la datang sini.

Harap nye dapat lah saya menjadi doktor yang bergune untuk agama, masyarakat dan negara. Eceh. Patriotik betol. Macam buat esei sejarah. Teringat mama. hehe

Rindunye nak balik rumah. sob. Walaupun takdelah sambut besday pun kat rumah. huhu. Tapi best bile ade family kat sisi. That's all.

Salam

Tu tajuk di atas tu semata-mata dibuat untuk ingat diri sendiri bahawasanya saya dah bertunang, bukan olok-olok macam main kawen-kawen tu ye. Ni memang sah nye tunang. Disebabkan saya ni dah makin hebat lupa benda-benda, patutlah jugak kot saye buat entry ringkas pasal hari engagement sy yang dah berlalu 3 bulan tu. hew hew

Daripada saya merepek je bek saya letak skit-skit lah kot gmbar-gambar di hari kejadian. Ni sume gambar adik-adik kesayanganku yang amek ni. Nampak pro sungguh kan. Tak perlu dah nak hire photographer. eceh. Bajet puji adik. Padahal dah kene jerit dah dgn along "tu salah tu. setting salah tu. jangan gune flash!!" oh sungguh tak sopan. tapi ye la. adik beradik bukan mmg gitu ke. ahaks. Yang penting majlis yang sangat ringkas ni selamat lah diadakan. Cincin pun dah kat jari.

Harapnye, hubungan kami selamat tanpa bencana taufan katrina atau salmah. Meskipun kami selalu bertengkar macam anjing dan kucing (saya kucing comel, dia comel gak :p), tapi kami selalu je baik-baik lepas tu. Hobi kami memang nak cari sape pemenang pertama dalam setiap benda. Masalah sungguh kan. Ok2. Tu je. Yang penting, kami bahagia. kiki

Sekian sahaja. Post ini didedikasikan kepada diri sendiri sempena masuknya umurku yang ke 22 (sekarang pukul 12am kat Malaysia, tapi 5pm kat UK). So kira waktu Malaysia la. Thank you mama for everything. For sume-sume ni. Walaupun mama sangat letih kerana terpaksa keluar setiap petang dengan efi untuk siapkan majlis ni, tapi mama buat jugak. oh terharuu. Disebabkan tu, efi sangat suka majlis tunang efi. hehe

Ada Professionalism Ceremony yang dianjurkan oleh University of Leeds untuk kami, Year 3 Medicine. Tujuan? Hmmm. Untuk meraikan kami yang akan masuk clinical years lah rasanya. Dengan pakai jubah hitam semua, memang nampak macam graduation betul2 dah. huhu. 

Seriously, bila diorang buat macam ni lagi membuatkan kitorang takut. uuuu. Dahlah sekarang ni kalau katakan failed exam, then amek resit, then if failed lagi, memang kena kick school  je. Dah takde dah istilah repeat year. Memang scary. Setakat ni, setiap batch senior kitorang dah ada wakil or contoh yang kena kick. *menangis meleh-leleh

Oleh itu, mulai sekarang, kena usaha! barulah boleh berjaya dengan jayanya kan without failing. Then tawakal semoga rezeki sentiasa dimurahkan. amin. Meanwhile, these are the so-called-graduation day pics.

Sabtu, 1 October 2011:

LUMSOC aka Leeds Malaysian Society menganjurkan Leeds Explorace. Ni memang acara tahunan untuk freshers. Actually, for the day, I was asked to be one of the photographers. Then fikir-fikir, macam penat je kena kejar2 orang amik gambar sepanjang hari. So, I decided to just participate. kiki. Barulah seronok kan. Kalau menang explorace apatah lagi. Siap dapat hampers *wee~

So, I was put in group 4. My group members are, Izzaty, Farah Chuah, Afiqah, Syafiq and me. Izzaty tu ialah ahli tarik-jom-masuk-kumpulan-ni. hihi. Sebab tamo jadi the only senior dalam group tu. Lagipun Izzaty masuk pun sebab last minute notice, so tak diassignkan ke mana-mana group lagi.

Ada banyak checkpoint untuk explorace ni. Antaranya, Parkinson steps (Brotherton Library), Milennium Square, Town Hall, Train Station, Royal Armouries, Bus Station, The Edge Gymnasium, and Hyde Park. *hafal semua tempat ni, next year mst tempat2 ni jugak*

Oleh sebab kumpulan saya ni sangatlah bersemangat berlari-lari kegembiraan setiap masa, jadi kami berjaya menjadi kumpulan 1st yang sampai ke checkpoint last! Senang kata, kami menang lah. haha. Ouh seronok sekali menang explorace ni. Berbaloi lari-lari selama 2 jam. Mula-mula bersaing jugak dengan group pinat sume, last2 sebab kami tau shortcut ke Royal Armouries, memang konfem la kami menang. haha

Ahad, 2 October 2011:

Rumah Erra, Najwa and Kak Khalisah ada buat house-warming. This equals to makan-makan! yeay. I loike makan-makan. Semenjak dua menjak ni, malas betu nak masak. Tapi rajin pulak makan. Haip. Sikit lagi mesti naik bertambah-tambah berat badan. Kenalah control balik nafsuku ini.

Menu makanan rumah diorang ialah; mee kari, nasi goreng, roti jala + kari, jelly strawberi yang sedap gilez, and air (of course). Saya tambah mangkuk 3 kali *waaaaaa. menjerit dalam hati bila ingatkan balik* Tu menunjukkan bukti betapa sedapnya kari itu. haha

Nyum nyum. Terima kasih daun keladi tuan rumah kerana mengeyangkan perut kami warga kampung Kelso dengan makanan anda. *wink

Pakej Pengantin Melaka

Salam,

Walaupun majlis macam jauh lagi, tapi keluarga sume dah suruh buat persiapan awal-awal. Takut tahun depan tak menyempat-nyempat pulak nak buat. hehe. So, lepas survey-survey dalam internet pasal pakej pengantin or pakej andaman kat Melaka ni, memang tak dinafikan banyaklah jugak choicenye. Cuma harga je lah tak tau macam mana lagi. Ada yang mahal, ada yang murah tapi senang kata, semua cost-cost ni bila campur tolak sume akan jadi lebih kurang je lah. 

Antara kedai andaman yang saya terjah ialah kedai andaman Sayang Creation. Kedai ni takde dalam blog, website or whatsoever. Saya tau pun bila lalu nak pergi kedai spa Ayuthaiya yang sebaris dengan kedai ni. Kedai ni betul-betul dekat hujung King's Hotel Melaka (berdepan dengan Hospital Pantai Ayer Keroh). Kedai ni kat tingkat dua. So, kene lah memanjat sikit naik ke atas. Bila masuk je, memang banyak betul baju liplap liplap kedai ni ada. Rugi pulak takde website. hehe. Pak Mus (owner kedai ni) dah lah mesra jugak. Harga pakej dia kata jujur mungkin mahal sikit daripada orang lain kat Melaka tapi takdelah sampai rate KL. Tengok album-album kerja kahwin dia buat, memang banyak lah orang-orang VIP Melaka yang dia selamat buat. Pak Mus ni pun dah buat kerja andaman sejak dia umur 18 tahun. Sekarang dah 50++. Artis-artis pinjam baju pun kat dia. Sebab baju dia memang cantik lah. ^.^
